Gibson Helps the Hard Rock Cafe Celebrate 35 Years
London was knee deep in the hottest weekend of the year on July 1st and 2nd, as 60,00 hard core rock fans made the journey to London's Hye Park for twodays of amazing music. The Hyde Park Calling concert was the
first stop on the Ambassadors of Rock world tour, helping to celebrate the 35th anniversary of the first ever Hard Rock Cafe in London, which opened on June 14th, 1971. Truley, the Hard Rock Cafe is one of the world's leading exhibitors of must-see Rock and Roll memorabilia.
Gibson, to salute the Hard Rock's amazing commitment to preserving some of rock's greatest artifacts, opened the vaults and displayed fine handcrafted guitars backstage in the Hard Rock VIP area. These incredible guitars honored Les Paul, B.B. King, Chet Atkins, Elvis Presley, and Merle Travis, and are valued at over $1 million. Gibson has created a limited-addition Les Paul to honor this tour, and will be signed by headline artists at each show and will later be displayed at Hard Rocks around the world.
The show featured not only an amazing display of guitars, but an amazing display of talent. Saturdays performers included former Squeeze frontman Chris Difford, and an incredible show by Pink Floyd's Roger Waters and drummer Nick Mason who did 1973's classic album Dard Side of the Moon in its entirety.
The crowd was completely stoked on Sunday as The Who took the stage to close the show. The band played an outstanding set that included "The Kids Are Alright", "Pinball Wizard", and "My Generation", followed other favorites like "Behind Blue Eyes" and "Who are you". All my fellow Gibson guitar freaks will be pleased to know that both Pete Townshend and Roger Daltrey both played J-200 acoustics on stage.
The Ambassadors of Rock tour the globe with stops scheduled in Tokyo, New York, Osaka, Orlando, Chicago, Caracas, Singapore and Hollywood (fl).
