Bob Gnarley vs Bob Narley

"Bob, Why is your name misspelled all over this website? Shouldn't it be Bob Gnarley and not Bob Narley?" jabberjaw

Well Jabber, you are absolutely correct. My last name is correctly spelled Gnarley, however in the Southern United States many people spell my name with the N instead of the G.

Back in the early 90's when I was officialy dubbed Bob Gnarley, a management brainstorming session came up with the great idea that the spelling of my name should be changed from Bob Gnarley, to Bob Narley on all official promotional items. Their reason was that they felt it would remove any ties from sounding too 80's.

As a result, the website was modified, future press releases would all include the wrong spelling, and that was that.

It was at that time that the domain BobNarley.com was aquired, even though all of the comedy audio was being promoted through KillerKona.com, which became one of the first websites to use streaming audio.

In the late 90's I closed down KillerKona.com and used both BobGnarley.com and BobNarley.com to promote the comedy material.

Ironically, BobNarley.com became considerably more popular, due to the massive radio exposure in the Southern United States.

These days, BobGnarley.com simply duplicates the content found on this website.

So, while some parts of the world know me as Bob Gnarley, others know me as Bob Narley. They both sound the same, and I'm not sure that there is any rational explanation as to why one website is more popular than the other.

My closet is filled with old Bob Gnarley T-Shirts and team jerseys from many of the popular sports franchises in Florida including an old orange Tampa Bay Buccaneer jersey and my favorite Tampa Bay Lightening jersey, which both have my name on the back as Gnarley.

Most of my close friends actually call me Gnarlz. Ironically, one radio executive has such a problem with that knickname that they refused to allow me to air people calling me that name. His reason "It sounds rediculous, a high profile person would never allow themselves to be called that." Hmmm.. let me see, it was about 5 years later that Gnarlz Barkley came out. Go figure.

So, I've been called: Gnarlz, Gnarleyman, Mr. Gnarley, Bob Gnarley, and more than one hot lady has called me Bobbers.

You know, a name is just a name, no matter how you spell it. I really don't care what anybody calls me, or how they spell it, no matter how crazy the reason. I'm just glad to do what I do.

So, why do they call you JabberJaw?

Bob Gnarley - The Original

Bob Gnarley Snowboarding Gloves.
Yes, I have seen those gloves.
They actually look pretty cool!
No, I don't get any cash for the use of my name.

From what I understand there is also a skateboarder who now tries to use my name, a snowboarder, and even another radio personality tried to ride on my coat tails for a while.

The truth is, I'm the original. 17 years as Bob Gnarley.
